Talk:On Topic / Off Topic

First Draft Comments
From Laura: I started the initial page.
What I'm wondering about are things like Harry Loots' inquiry.
Should that be off topic? I'm worried that we will lose focus on the mission and spec and other agendas will scatter our efforts.
Please add your ideas and comments here. Thanks, Laura 07:02, 18 November 2007 (PST)
From Jason: I share these concerns. There are more appropriate fora for that kind of inquiry, w3c-wai-ig@w3.org for example. Anything not related to HTML, XHTML or associated specs is off-topic in my opinion.
From Gez : Yes, that's seriously off-topic. Maybe add another item that discussions should be based around html4all's mission.
From Laura : I added a list of places where it might be appropriate to discuss off-topic subjects. We can just point people there if needed.
From Gez : I like the list of websites where unrelated content can be posted, as it helps reinforce the boundaries for discussion.
From Laura: Do you think that the items that I mentioned on the survey as off-topic need to be listed?
From Gez: Yes, that's a good idea. That's a comprehensive list; that covers everything I can think of apart from spam, but I can't see our members spamming us.
From Laura: Our current members won't but new list members or Wiki helpers might. Should we try to include something about spam, marketing, advertising? How would you phrase it?
From Gez : What about something like: Promoting products or services that are not directly related to html4all's mission or on-topic for the particular discussion?
From Laura: That's great :-) Thanks.
